Fishy Saturday
Day 29
Mock Triathlon
We came. We saw. We conquered. It was...educational...if not a little fun, right girls? Right??
We met at the clubhouse at 7 am and got our stuff all laid out. Then we got in the lake.
Ew. It smelled bad. And tasted worse. The anticipation of going in the lake is always a lot worse than the actual experience. I wish I could just relax, but I was tense in the lake the entire time. It was a long way across the lake and I was getting tired, but I made it. Coming back, the sun glared off my goggles and made it hard to keep an eye on Hillary (who I was using as my focal point). In the actual race itself, I need to focus on a stationary object. Eventually, my googles got so foggy, I just pulled them off. It wasn't like I was opening my eyes under water anyways. I wasn't as far back as I thought I was going to be from Hillary, but she still has the swim in the bag.
The bike portion of the "event" was, by far, my most favorite. That's definitely my strongest of the three sports. I felt good. My butt didn't hurt. The only thing I'd change is bring something to eat, drink more water, and possibly have a bottle of gatorade.
I was the first one back from the bike, but I had the same problem today as I did when I did the triathlon 2 years ago. I really needed my inhaler. Especially getting off the bike and then running up that stupid hill. I just can't seem to catch my breath. So I ended up walking a lot more of the 5k then I had wanted to. I did make it all the way up Stansbury Parkway before I stopped to walk.
Hillary caught up with me at Crystal Bay. Then we walked for a little bit at the corner of the frontage road. We ran down to the elementary school and the water stop (so glad for the water stop!) and Christina caught up with us there.
Hillary and Christina took off and I ended up walking up the hill by the school on our way back. I was probably a minute behind them finishing though, so not too shabby.
Of course, I didn't run 11 miles yesterday.
I think it was a good workout that got us a little more prepared for the actual thing. We should probably do another one (same course so we can see if we improved any) before the actual tri. Next weekend is a holiday, I have something on the 1st, so the 8th it is. We could try to do it on an evening during the week if that doesn't work.
This week we're going to try biking (most) of the triathlon course for Hillary's benefit on Tuesday night.
Good job girls.
