We Have Our Work Cut Out For Us
Day 15
Road Bike (traded with swimming)
Every once in awhile you go out and think you have a kick butt workout and your times appear really good, but when you get home, you realize, that no, indeed, you were so much slower than you thought.
That was today. It was Christina's inaugural morning on her new road bike and we did the triathlon course to get a feel for it, timing ourselves from start to finish at the clubhouse.
The course winds back and forth through Stansbury and it's actually pretty difficult. For starters, it's uphill...a lot. The ride itself was pretty uneventful. There was a little rain, but not a whole lot. No dogs chased us. There were a lot of people out running and a few biking. It's nice to see people out. A few years ago, when I started running, I was usually the only one out there. Now, there's tons.
I was trying to remember what people were doing the bike portion in the last two years during the triathlon. 40 minutes seemed to be the number that stuck in my mind. When 40 minutes came and went, I thought it must have been longer than that.
When I got home, I looked it up, and sadly, our 55:22 time today was the third SLOWEST time for BOTH years.
It's hard to say where we went wrong. Do you really pedal that much faster when you're with a group of people? Are we that out of shape? Is the course longer? Upon further investigation, this year's route is actually over a mile longer than the one we did in 2007. That makes me feel a little better. I'm not sure how it compares to last year though, so who knows.
In any case, my legs are tired and I'm ready for a nap.
