Mexican Food is a Bad Prerun Dinner

Day 8
4 mile tempo run at 9:57/mile

Last night we went to Casa Del Rey's in Grantsville for Kandiss's and Grace's birthdays. It was decided this morning that Mexican food does not make a good prerun dinner. Neither Christina or I hit our marks this morning.

Christina showed up right on time and we started off. The bonus about having the GPS watch is that I can see how fast/slow we're going. I was ahead of Christina a little bit in the first half mile and so I slowed down to get even with her and then I kept pushing her pace up until we were on target. I don't even think she noticed. :) That first mile we were all over the pace and I was happy to have hit our target pace right on the nose. It's always good not to start the second mile already having to make up time.

The going was pretty rough. Four miles at a 9:57 is a tough run for someone who hasn't run that fast in like two years. And I never did feel as triumphant as I did last week for our three mile tempo run. It felt like a chore the entire run. But we finished. And finished quite spectacularly.

Mile 1: 9:56
Mile 2: 9:42
Mile 3: 10:04 (big hill)
Mile 4: 9:30

I'm proud of us for running the last mile the fastest. And also averaging a 9:48/mile pace. That's awesome. Still looking for that perfect formula where I'll look forward to getting up in the morning and running instead of dreading it. Good thing I'm in charge of the blog. I'm pretty sure I would've given up last Tuesday. :)

Yay for no more running until Friday. Double yay for a training program that has only three days of running.

One day our children will stumble upon this blog and laugh at how cool we thought we were because we were running a sub-10 minute mile. They'll remind us of this when we cross the finish line of the Boston Marathon (8 min miles to qualify).

We'll get there ladies. But right now...Hobblecreek in 2:15.
