Ride, Baby, Ride

Day 35
Biking

I met Christina at the clubhouse at 6:30 this morning. Unfortunately, her bike had a flat tire and her mountain bike has no pedals. So she was in her van. That was nice of her to show up. I would've just called from bed and then gone back to sleep.

We sat and talked for about an hour. I really wanted to turn around and go home, but since I was already out, I decided to do the course anyways.

My goal was to finish in under 50 minutes. There was a slight drizzle of rain and the wind was pretty stiff. The ride was uneventful for the most part. The hardest part is the stretch from the turnoff of Bates Canyon to Erda Way. It's a long uphill. The flip side is that it's all downhill coming back.

At one point I was going faster than the speed limit--25 mph. I hit 26.4 mph on the way back from Erda Way. It was awesome! But then I almost biffed it turning a corner. I need to work on that strategy since I had to slam on my brakes and I lost all momentum. It happened again at the next corner as well.

When I was almost to the end of Bates Canyon on my way back, there was a car following behind me. It would not pass me and was pissing me off. So I crossed the street and turned down the side street. The car followed and it was going so slow. So I just left it in the dust. I think it was a someone looking for yard sales, but who knows.

I continued back on the path to the clubhouse and finished in 47:31. averaging 15.4 mph. Yay! I'm finally blowing time goals out of the water like Hillary. Of course, she'll probably read this, get on her bike and finish in 35 minutes. :)

Ha! I don't think my bike goes over 20 mph. I'm a chicken too! (How do you get over that?!) It doesn't help when I remember getting 50 stitches in my chin...(When I was a kid)
