Getting Going

Day 36
Swimming
6 x 400 at 2:15 pace

Christina and I met at 5:15 this morning to head to the swimming pool. So glad we're back in the pool instead of the lake. The water was cold and the early swimmers were looking at us like we had just landed there on our little spaceships. Seriously, maybe we're infringing on some secret meeting or something. And then the old lady bobbing in the deep end...

I calculated how far 400 m (the distance of the triathlon) was in laps and we decided to "mimic" the race. The rules were that we had to swim without touching the sides. This was a little bit trickier than I anticipated since you have to go in a circle AND avoid the old lady bobber. But we somehow figured it out and swam 18 lengths of the pool that way. It took us about 10:30 to do it. I set a goal of being out of the water in 11 minutes. This gives us a little leeway because (a) we're not swimming in circles, so we're not losing momentum (b) all those people that kick you in the face and (c) the lake itself. I plan to be on my bike by 12:00, though according to the results last year, that was pretty fast. I do think the swim turned out to be longer than the year before, though. So maybe they'll go back to the first year's course.

After we swam, we headed over to the track. I can't say that I particularly like doing these workouts back to back, though I am glad to have them done. I was trying to dry myself off the best I could before putting on my clothes (over my swimsuit). It was a little bit colder than most mornings too. We waited for a few minutes for Hillary, and then started. We were soaking wet from the swimsuits, but only in the places that matter. Like the boobs, the butt and the crotch. You know, for the entire football team to see.

The first lap was hard and then we had to pee. So we went in search of a bathroom. We finally found an open door to the school and then ran into someone from Christina's ward. After we used the bathroom, Tonya Haddon was there and we talked to the two ladies for a while before I steered us back outside to finish our workout.

We had to quit at four laps because of time, but...oh well. We tried.

Here's our splits:

Lap 1: 2:04
Lap 2: 2:01
Lap 3: 1:55
Lap 4: 1:51

I think we're getting faster because they didn't seem *that* hard.
